I have had a huge couple of days and I made it through without going into labour!!!
It is my little girls 2nd birthday tomorrow (16 April) and we had family over to celebrate it. It was a simple affair with a good Aussie barbie and cupcakes in Dora colours for her birthday cake. She had a great day and was definitely spoilt by everyone.

On Friday I went to the Gold Coast Quilt and Craft Fair. It was good (not great) and pretty small in comparison to the Sydney ones. There were the most common stalls that I have seen at previous shows but really nothing new or exciting. I really wasn’t inspired quiltwise at all. The two quilt stands that I did like were Patchwork with Gail B and Just patchwork. I remember both of these from the sydney shows and they still have a great range of quilt kits. Both of them also had the best range of fat quarters. Gail B becasue they were the cheapest and Just Patchwork because they were about the only ones with any decent fabric ranges like Amy Butler and Kaffe Fassett.
I only bought a couple of little things, just some small projects to keep me amused. (pics below)
I bought a Japanese Chirimen pattern made by eastwind art from Be Be Bold. (right of pic) The pattern makes a really cute small pouch which I think would be great as a gift bag. The pattern has instructions for a clam shell pin cushion as well. I also got some beautiful navy and white Japanese fabric from them to make a couple of the gift bags.
| Theother craft kit I bought was also a Japanese pattern from Sanshi. BTW their website is excellent, it is well worth a look. They have lots of kits for Japanese fabric quilts, bags, purses etc. I got a kit for a small coin purse that attaches to a key chain. (centre of pic) | ![]() |
I also got a pattern from Blue Willow Cottage for a Handy Housewife. Not that I am at all handy but the pattern is for a really neat sewing kit – something that holds all of the essentials. (left of pic)
The only thing that I did get that was quilt related was a fabric pack and pattern for a crib quilt. It was from a local quilt shop called Patches Indooroopilly. The pattern is basically nine-patch blocks set on point with each square of the nine-patch being 1″ square. My goal is to actually hand piece and quilt this project. I thought that the blocks were a little small so I have adjusted the pattern a little and now each square is 2″. The fabric pack had 8 fat eighths and they are basically reproduction fabrics. Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo of them and have already cut them up.

I thought this might be a good project to do when I am in hospital (if I feel like it) so I made myself a small sewing kit to take with me. Mind you I haven’t actually packed my bag for hospital yet but at least I will have something to do when I get there.
I am now due in 4 days – heaps of time to do that sort of thing! (right Sheri?)

Happy Birthday to my favourite 2 year old girl in the whole world! Both Henry and I send lots of kisses and cuddles!
Love the Dora cupcakes! I will post a photo of Henry’s birthday cake and you will LAUGH. Same cupcake stand, same two candles in the top one, but we did Cars. Anyway enough about me. Back to you.
PACK THE BLOODY BAG. NOW. This one might come really quickly and you will be running around looking for the nice selection of CDs to listen to, a book, your Evian face spray, some organic lozenges to suck, etc, etc. Because that’s what pregnancy websites tell you to pack, don’t they?
YOU ARE PLANNING TO SEW IN HOSPITAL? Now that one had me rolling around the floor at this early hour of the morning. I keep forgetting you are super-laid-back-relaxed mother and I am uptight, tense, anxiety-ridden, nervous Mum. However, can I request a blog post about how much sewing you did get done in hospital? Please. Just humour me.
I love the quilt fabric you bought, its very pretty. And I will follow your links and have a look at the other things. I like the coin purse, and I am curious to see what a Handy Housewife is. We all need one of those!
So, congratulations on getting through your busy social calendar still pregnant! Now for god’s sake, go and pack your bag and then lie on the lounge. 12pm Dr Phil, 1pm Oprah or The Catch-Up. It’s all downhill after 2pm though.
