Have you seen a pattern that you just HAD to make ….. TODAY!
This morning I saw the Bias Tote Bag from marthastewart.com in Thimble’s tutorial links.
The husband was out and the kids were asleep and I was sure that my stash would turn up something. I used my clever clover tape maker for the side seams which needed something a little thicker than the 12mm black that I used for the rest.
I hate using bias binding but it looked like such a cute project. It is going to be a project bag for …. something secret. The bias tape was a little tricky and frustrating and my sewing machine just wasn’t in the mood, but I got it finished just as the kids started stirring.
I still hate bias tape and this is why – I am not very good at it.
The tote looks good, but don’t look too closely. There are a lot of these “near misses”. I can’t really fix them, so I will just leave it ….. then they will fray, look like crap and I will regret not fixing them earlier. The bag isn’t going to have a rough life as it is going to pretty much sit over a door handle and hold the project, so it should be fine.

Very very cute! Great fabric choice. You can read about my bias binding issues in one of my recent posts too! I think your tote looks great.
Gorgeous! I love this fabric but am too frightened to cut it. You might just have motivated me to use it. Looks fabulous, and very exciting to see something new around the blogs! (Well, new for me, anyway).
I love this Donna but hate bias tape as well. I bet you wanted to scream when you did the booboo!!
O.K. not to let a challange sway me…. I have done the same thing! Hasn’t everyone at least the first few times that they use bias tape? You can fix it if you want! All you have to do is un-pick…. (another dreaded thing sewing can make us do!) about 2 inches of area total…. don’t unpick any more than nessesary! Pin… and put your sewing machine needle about 3 stitches back (yes, you are going to have to put the entire bag close to the machine! ) and start stitching… when you come to where you are back over the old stitching… stitch a couple stitches and then back stitch! I tell you what… this is nothing! Try sewing wedding dresses and after you have it all done… then you find something like that that hasn’t top stitched like it should! Talk about having a hissy fit! That would be me!
Good luck! Hang in there… better than having it fall apart really fast and people wondering what kind of a seamstress is she any-way????
