My little girl turned 4 not so long ago. Turning 4 means a visit to the GP for a check up and some more immunisations. The needles went fine and the drama wasn’t from the needle itself but having to wear band-aids – she hates them.
The other problem of the morning was that she didn’t do so well in the eye test. It was pretty rough test and just highlighted that there may be a problem.
So off to the optometrist to find out that she is longsighted – more so in her right eye.
I was a little shocked by it all and took a while for it to sink in. My little girl needs glasses!!!
She has to wear them full time at the moment and after a month or so start eye patching the good eye to strengthen the weaker one. I remember thornberry going through the same thing with her little girl.
She complains about wearing them and we struggle to keep them on for most of the day. Yesterday I asked her to put them and her response was ” I’m too busy right now”.
She has two sets and now prefers her more simpler wire frame pair (that I picked). The other set (pic below) was chosen because they were pink and had bows on them – and would you believe Disney princess branded. I think they make her look grandma’ish.

She looks so cute in her glasses! It is a bit of a shock to the system at first, but honestly I’ve been amazed at how well Clare has adapted to her glasses (and how incredibly cooperative she was with patching). The hardest thing with kids glasses is that there is so little choice in styles – especially for Clare who doesn’t find the metal-rimmed ones comfortable and only likes plastic frames. We had the choice of about three pairs (from four shops) last time we bought a new pair – and she ended up with exactly the same frames but in a different colour – which happen to be precisely the same as her best friend’s glasses. I suppse that because I wear glasses it’s all been a bit easier for Clare to adapt to them. Good luck – and keep them away from younger sibling!
I thought I saw glasses in one of the Melb photos, but I thought maybe she was just playing (I know she loves to dress up!).
I think that they look gorgeous on her! Hope all goes well.
Check out this gorgeous baby with glasses, I think she is the cutest bundle around:

I’ll never forget when GD#1 got her glasses. That evening walking she wanted to know what those “spots” were up in the sky … STARS. And the next day going to school she cried out “Oh my look trees”. We had no idea her eyes were so bad.
She looks adorable in her glasses … it’ll take time.
She looks very cute in her glasses!
