In keeping with the trend of updating some of our rooms, I next attacked the spare room.
This room gets used quite often with my mum staying weekly to help out with the kids.
I bought a new DIY (attach it yourself) light shade from beacon and made a butterfly picture to fill up the very blank wall. The frame is quite big 50cmx50cm. (19.5″x19.5″).
I managed to get them both in one picture.
I was inspired to make the butterfly frame after I saw one similar at the last finders keepers markets (BTW they are on again this weekend in Brisbane). It was a case of “I love it, but it is too expensive and I could probably make it myself”.
It has taken awhile for it to come together.
I got some old golden books from op shops (with Susies help) and the frame from ikea. The butterflies were made by using a scrapbooking template and hand cutting them.
The room still looks a little bare, but not as barren as it was. Maybe a new doona cover will help too.

I really like your framed butterflies! I’m sure that would sell in a shop for $150!!! Maybe you could do a little tutorial of how you made them and stuck them down etc – just for simpletons like me that have no idea about paper and glue and how to make them look so professional!
I love the way you have offset the frame from the bed, and the super mod lamp!
I just saw this on Flickr and was about to email you about where you got it from! I have been looking for one of these for ages. Want one!!! I can’t believe you made it!! Not because you aren’t clever, because I know that you are, but maybe I never knew you were THAT clever…..

This is one idea I am going to snitch for my house! I love it, well done
